WHO WE ARE

EVENTIVAL is the creator of a unique software application for managing artistic and technical aspects of film festivals. Eventival also provides consultancy services to festivals and filmmakers. The company was founded in November 2008, has clients and partners among film festivals, markets and industry organisations around the world, and operates from France and the Czech Republic.

The first Eventival software was developed in early 2009, and soon came to be used by a number of film festivals in five countries.

Following
worldwide interest and an investment, Eventival increased its team of programmers and graphic designers to create a new version of the software, drawing upon the concepts used in the original version but surpassing its architecture, design and user-friendliness.

Eventival benefits from development facilities of BTL , one of the world's largest manufacturers of physical therapy and cardiology products (www.btlnet.com ) .

FOUNDERS

Tomas PRÁŠEK
Tomas moved into the film industry in 1996. Prior to that, he translated, wrote, travelled, and taught English at the Assumption University (ABAC) in Bangkok. As a result of his involvement in the 1989 Velvet Revolution, he worked with Jiří Dienstbier , the first post-communist Minister of Foreign Affairs, and and Václav Havel, the former Czech President.

After a year at the Prague International Film Festival , Tomas joined the Karlovy Vary IFF in 1997 as Guest Services Director . Seeing festivals assume a new role as agents in contemporary cultural and social life, Tomas believed they would soon begin to seek appropriate management tools, and saw a predecessor of such a tool in software created by his colleague Pavel Kalenda. In 2000, his idea to introduce the system under the name "DataKal" abroad led to a collaboration with the Bergen IFF in Norway. From 2000 to 2008, DataKal was implemented at 30 film festivals in 20 countries, and became the only globally used film festival management software.

Besides running DataKal, Tomas was Project Manager overseeing the creation of a festival database system for the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin ( Berlinale) between 2003 and 2006.

Tomas's efforts in music (which he actively played for nine years) culminated in 1998 by co-creating EuroConnections , now a trademark event of Prague's Palac Akropolis, and organising several concerts. In 2004, he co-founded MOFFOM (www.moffom.org), an international festival of music films whose advisor, programmer and finally co-director he was until 2009.

Tomas is a board member of the International Film Festival Summit Europe , Music on Film, o.s. , the Czech-Thai Society, and was a member of the Cultural Grants Commission of the City of Prague . He regularly lectures on film festival management at the Deutsche Welle Akademie in Berlin.

Tomas has a law degree from Prague's Charles University, and studied cultural anthropology and philosophy in Amsterdam. He lives between Czech Republic and France.

CHA Yeo Myoung (Dawna)
Dawna joined the Pusan IFF in South Korea in 2001 as Press and then Guest Relations department coordinator. For one year, she was Foreign Affairs officer at the BASFF in South Korea, and then moved to Prague to pursue film studies at FAMU.

When a group of film and music industry personalities led by John Caulkins founded MOFFOM, the international festival of music films, in Prague in 2004, Dawna became its Festival Manager and Programmer, and held the position until 2007 when she returned to Korea to study and work on the preparation of the creation of AMUSIFF, the Association of Music Film Festival (www.amusiff.org). Her work for MOFFOM helped bring the festival to the attention of the international film industry, making it one of the most respected and appreciated events of its kind, and an acknowledged inspiration for many other similarly oriented film festivals.

During her time in Prague, Dawna worked closely with Pavel Kalenda and Tomas Prasek, assisting with the promotion, international marketing and support for the Datakal system. Since 2008, Dawna has been a programmer for the Busan International Kid's Film Festival (BIKI).

Dawna is Korean and lives between Prague and France where she has recently completed her MBA degree at INSEAD.

Jan VILD
Tomas's schoolmate from the Faculty of Law, Jan Vild was a leading member of the 1989 student movement in Czechoslovak Velvet Revolution, and between 1990 and 1992 one of the five students who became Members of Parliament in the first post-communist Federal Assembly of Czechoslovakia.

Jan eventually left politics to focus his vision and entrepreneurial skills on business, founding several companies ranging from media to medical equipment design and production.

Interested in investing in event management systems such as Datakal since the project's early stage, Jan proposed to bring in his experience in international business in the summer of 2009 to secure growth of Eventival worldwide .

USER SUPPOR

Eventival 2.0 is still work-in-progress though its completion is nearing the successful end. Two versions exist: the development version hosted in the UK, and the version on which data of several festival is stored is hosted in the CR.

For the moment, user support is being provided by Tomas Prasek and Dawna Cha, while technical support is taken care of by Jan Kaltoun and the programmers responsible for the creation of the individual modules of the system. We are beginning to work with several multilingual individuals experienced in festival organisation and the use of festival database systems.

The four film festivals using Eventival 2.0 at the moment are all instrumental in bringing in ideas and opinions on the user-friendliness of the interface, and their comments are taken in high consideration.
